My wife and I live close to Austin on our Central Texas ranch of a bit over 600 acres (250 ha) where we have whitetail deer, wild turkeys, and some feral boars. We have a 3800 sq. ft. (380 sq meter) home, and also have a rustic guest cabin (with water and electricity) located about 1/2 km away on the same property. Guests may take their choice of staying in our home or, if they prefer privacy and a rustic setting, they may choose the cabin. Deer and turkey season typically runs from the first Saturday in November through the third weekend in January. Deer are numerous and each hunter may take one deer of each sex. Turkeys are less common, and feral hogs appear sporadically. Weather is generally mild, with Nov temperatures 10-20 C and January temperatures 0-10 C (although it can be much cooler or warmer for brief periods. Deer hunting is done from plywood blinds stationed near corn feeders to attract the wildlife. This is by far the most common method of hunting in this area. The deer are not large in this area, so a hunter should not expect to take a large trophy, but rather a mature deer representative of the species. I am an enthusiastic shooter and own a large collection of hunting rifles in a range of calibers, so you will not be required to import your own rifle in order to hunt. In addition to hunting, I would invite you to enjoy target shooting of most any type you would enjoy on my private range which is equipped with a permanent benchrest and has available target stations of up to 800 yards (~730 meters). Informal pistol, rifle, and shotgun shooting is available -- and the ammunition is "courtesy of the house" for reasonable amounts. I also have land in West Central Texas where hunting for Mourning Doves (Sept-Oct) and prairie dog shooting (April-October) can be arranged. This area is also productive for calling predators like coyotes. I have hunted abroad in Mexico, Canada, and Namibia, Sweden, and Denmark.. There is no particular location or game which I am looking to hunt, so if you have a desire to hunt with me please let me know what you can offer in return.
